Liverpool raises funds for Noah

Bibby Financial Services’ Champion’s Day raises over £6k for local causes

Independent business funder, Bibby Financial Services (BFS) hosted a horse-racing inspired fundraising event in Liverpool this week to support local charities.

The Champion’s Day event brought together the local business network, including accountants, finance brokers, financial advisers and North West business owners who raised £5,200 by mock-betting on the first day of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

All betting amounts were combined and an additional £1,000 was contributed by BFS’ parent company, Bibby Line Group, as part of its Giving Something Back charitable giving programme, bringing the total up to £6,200 for the day.

Mike Calvert, Head of Sales for Bibby Financial Services Liverpool said: “It’s fantastic that we have been able to raise so much money. We would like to thank everyone who came along and donated.”

Over 100 people attended the event, which raised money for local charities as well as Southport boy Noah Cunningham, who suffers from a muscular dystrophy disorder.

Noah, 11, has the life-shortening, muscle-wasting disorder, Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Noah can no longer walk and uses a powered wheelchair following the weakening of his arms. The illness means that Noah is unable to participate in normal activities for a boy of his age, such as playing football. Despite this, Noah is a huge football fan and regularly goes to watch Everton play. The money raised at the event will go towards the cost of a therapy pool to improve Noah’s quality of life.

Mike said: “Noah is a truly inspirational boy and it’s great to be able to help him and his family. We hope that the money raised will contribute to the cost of a therapy pool for Noah.”

Noah’s mum Vicki Cunningham said: “The therapy pool will completely change Noah’s quality of life, allowing him to exercise at home as well as relieve pain from severe cramps that are frequent with his disorder. Both Noah and myself would like to thank the team at Bibby Financial Services and all of its customers and business network for their generosity. We really appreciate their kindness and the effort that went into organising this event.”

The fundraiser, which was held at The Bier Keller in Liverpool on 10 March,is an annual event hosted by Bibby Financial Services to support local causes. This year’s event also raised money for The Woodlands Hospice and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Mike added: “Champion’s Day is a chance for us to give something back to the local communities and this year’s event was a great success.”

Bibby Financial Services’ parent company Bibby Line Group began trading in Liverpool in 1807 and still has a presence in the city with an office on Duke Street. Since its creation in 2007, the company’s Giving Something Back scheme has raised more than £7.9million for over 1,000 charities.
